Pinetop White Mountain Blog

Good Morning Everyone,

Well, the weather in the White Mountains is finally moderating and the temps are getting back to normal.  However as a result of the most recent subzero weather in our area there have been a lot of frozen & broken water pipes. With subzero temps for several nights in a row, twice this year already, non-insulated pipes in unheated spaces will freeze and crack, particularly around water heaters, in crawl spaces, and behind walls.

This post is to serve as a reminder to anyone out there who may have an unoccupied property in the White Mountains that you could have some problems at your properties with frozen and broken water pipes.  If no one is watching your home for you it might be a good idea to have a friend or a plumber take a look at your place just to make sure you do not have flooding problems in your homes.  Broken water pipes have been keeping the Plumbing Contractors in our area very busy over the past few weeks.  Even properly winterized homes are having problems.

I have been checking my own listings to make sure they are secure and do not have problems but that doesn't mean that some may not have problems when the water is turned back on in them. With temps this cold, pipes will crack even with no water in them.  A tiny bit of condensation can cause problems.

I don't want to alarm you but I feel I would be doing a disservice to my loyal readers if I didn't forewarn you of potential problems.  These temperatures are not normal but they have happened and unfortunately our homes in this area are not built to withstand this kind of cold.

Good luck to you and let me know if you need the name of a Plumber or someone who might be willing to check your homes for damages.  It is really all about service and that is one of my specialties.

Thanks for reading, until next time....
