"On Being a REALTOR®

When I made the decision to become a REALTOR® almost twelve years ago, it was because I had reached a point in my life where other career options were pretty limited.  I was at the age where I was past the ideal candidate for most any position.  I was too experienced to return to entry level office & clerical positions, and I was not ’t really as tech savey as I needed to be either.  I found myself competing with much younger applicants who had grown up with computers and technology and I was at a distinct disadvantage.

So what could I do?  Much of my work experience during my lifetime had been related to Real Estate one way or another.  I had worked for  Real Estate Developers as a Construction Coordinator; I had worked in Secretarial Pools for Large Real Estate Companies; I had even worked in a Hardware Store where I helped people find what they needed to fix and maintain their homes.  These experiences provided me with the perfect opportunity to transition in to the Real Estate Field.

After licensing I started my career in Real Estate.  For the First Time in my life I actually had a career identity, I was a REALTOR®.  I was, and still am proud of that identity.  I wear my badge wherever I go and I am surprised how many people will say, Oh you are a REALTOR®; my sister, mother, father, kids, etc. are looking for a home can you help? I
absolutely love it when that happens.  It makes all the headaches, heartaches, and frustrations, that go along with Listing and Selling property worth it because I am recognized as a Professional.

Being a REALTOR® has provided me an opportunity to make my own luck and steer my own future.  After many years of being little more than an “employee” and frankly easily replaced, I finally found a place and an identity I could be proud of and an opportunity to help people make their Real Estate Dreams come true.
